Google is up with a new algorithm to provide a more useful, related and precise local search results that are tied more closely to traditional web search ranking pointers. The changes will be visible within the Google Maps search results and Google Web search results. The name is Google pigeon update.

Google informed us that the new local search algorithm ties profounder into their web search skills, including the hundreds of ranking signals they use in web search along with search features such as Knowledge Graph, spelling alteration, substitutes and more.
This new Google algorithm update seems to be missing a formal name so search industry leader, Search Engine Land, named it ā€˜Pigeonā€™ because ā€œpigeons tend to fly back home.

At core, Pigeon is a critical modification to the relationship between the local and core Google algorithms, making them closer and more expert at handling location constraints. Due to the delicate nature of these changes it will not be a penalty-based update in other words, we can say ā€œtaking out the trashā€ but it actually targets to improve the number of local directories yielded. These local rankings will depend on more typical measures of SEO such as backlinks, domain experts and some other issues things associated with SEO.
